Let The (Un)Festivities Begin

My wife’s grandmother was unhooked from her ventilator Saturday at 6:00 PM. From what I hear, she passed away only 10 minutes later. There was no telling how long she was going to survive once unhooked from life support, but a few EEGs and an MRI showed that there was nothing going on in her brain anymore anyway.

So tonight is the wake. We are spending quite a few hours today assembling a picture collage for it. Tomorrow is the funeral (another Catholic one. Note to self: Bring inhaler). The graveside service is not until Thursday because she is going to be cremated.

I have these three days off from work, but since my wife’s grandmother is not my “immediate family” I do not get Bereavement time and my time off is considered one long Unexcused Absence (as if I called in sick for three days straight). Somethings are worth whatever marks are going against you, though, and being by my wife’s side through this time is definitely one of them.

  1. My thoughts and prayers go with the wife and you. Still tough to lose those grandparents, even as an adult.

Yes…yes it is. Thank you very much.

PS: I forgot my inhaler. 👿
